It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of our dad, “Moostache” Grandpa, Gayard Fuerst. Gayard passed away at Health Science Center Hospital on November 28th at 72 years old with his family by his side.
He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his children; Gavin (Melissa) and Hollee Sachvie (Ryan); and six grandchildren: Teagan, Payton, Hyden, Drue, Dielle and Emree; special family members Kathy Smolinski, Brayden (Gabriella) and Kelby Picard. He is survived by his siblings Sharon Singbeil, and Marlis, Randy and Laureen (Todd) Fuerst. He was predeceased by his parents, Irvin and Irene, brother Glen, and infant sister Marlene.
Gayard was born and raised in Golden Bay. He married Sandy (Gunning) in 1974, and they raised their two children, Gavin and Hollee in Cromwell. Gayard’s first job was with the Town of Beausejour, but later moved on to the RM of Brokenhead to work as a Heavy Equipment Operator. To this day, we often hear compliments about what a skilled Operator he was. Gayard loved his work and the friends he met along the way. He retired in 2015 after 39 years of service.
If anyone knew our dad, they knew he was the life of the party. Signature dance moves, loved to tease, the most unique sayings and always ready to welcome you in. Friends of all ages, always available for a drop in to have a good talk and a shot. He was a great listener, took interest in your life and never made judgement.
Over the years dad had many passions including slo pitch, curling, hunting, and golfing. More recently activities also included getting together with friends for competitive Crazy 8’s, Bomber games and Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo.
Moostache Grandpa, we will think of you every time we have an ice cream sandwich. We will always remember your goofy words and your unconditional love.
Dad, you taught us how to laugh, how to be a great friend, and how to always have fun. Your huge personality will be missed dearly.
There will never be another Gayard. He was our best friend.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, Dec 5, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East with Pastor Terry Gundmundson. Interment will follow at the Golden Bay Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if friends and family so desire, donations in their memories may be made to the Beausejour Hospital.
