Gerald William Graves

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his three children, Corinne (Glen), Bill (Joanne), Debbie (Jim). Grandchildren Dana (Matt), Brad (Morgan), Dallas (Shana), Kurtis, Tyler (Nicole), Jenessa (Kyle). Along with his pride and joy, his great grandchildren. Rylee, Hannah, Hayley, Zoey,Veda, Noah and Brooks.

Dad deeply missed the love of his life Ann, who predeceased him October 9th, 2021 on their 62nd wedding anniversary. His parents William and WilmaGraves, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Winnie Charlton; brother Jim Graves, Brother in-law Gord Gunlaugson, sisters-in-laws, Betty Gunlaugson, and Gail Graves. He is survived by nephews Ken and Jim Gunlaugson, and many cousins.

Gerald, or “Gerry” as he was known to everyone, was born on May 15, 1938, in Welwyn, Saskatchewan. At a young age, Gerry’s family moved to the St. James area of Winnipeg. It was there, as a teenager, that he met the love of his life, Ann. 

Gerry and Ann were married on October 9, 1959. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to Geraldton, Ontario, where Gerry began his career as a butcher. Their first child, Corinne, was born during their time in Geraldton. 

In 1962, the family moved to Beausejour, Manitoba, where Gerry accepted a position as a butcher at the Co-op Grocery Store. Their family grew with the births of Bill and then Debbie.

Later, Gerry made a career change and entered the insurance industry, operating Graves Insurance from his home before moving into an office on Park Avenue and remained there until retirement.

After retiring, Gerry and Ann spent a lot of time travelling. They enjoyed many cruises and spent their winters in Arizona and Florida before making Weslaco, Texas, their winter home for 20 years.

Gerry was an active member of the Beausejour community. He served on the CPTC and Arena boards, just to name a few. He also served two terms as a Councillor for the Town of Beausejour.

We would like to thank the staff and doctors at both Selkirk and Beausejour Hospital for taking care of dad. We would also like to send out a special thank you to Gabby Kehler, and Glen and Lynda Kaatz for being kind-hearted and caring neighbors.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no formal service. Family and friends are invited to gather for come and go refreshments, while sharing memories at the Beausejour Legion on Friday, August 21st anytime between 1pm - 3pm.
