With great sadness we announce the passing of Gladys Schewe (Reinhardt) on December 15th, 2025.
Gladys Schewe is survived by her special friend Ron, sister Carol (Roland), brother Rod (Birgitt), sisters-in-law Diane (Garth), Vicki & Delories, brother-in-law Gary (Nina) and many nieces & nephews as well as great nieces & nephews.
Gladys was predeceased by her mother and father (Gladys & Paul Reinhardt), brothers Frank, Ron & Paul and mother & father-in-law (Sarah & Herman).
Gladys completed her education in the small community of Sprague, Manitoba and continued on to a year of Teachers College in Winnipeg.
At a very young age she was off to a teaching career in a few small communities in Manitoba and then back to Winnipeg. She worked her way to Principal but really preferred teaching the younger children. This was where she excelled and loved every minute of it, even evenings, preparing and looking forward to each and every day with the little ones. She not only prepared their lessons and fun activities but dressed herself in colorful and intriguing outfits to encourage their curiosity and learning.
In 1970, Gladys and Ron were married and Gladys continued teaching. In the years ahead she was offered a position to teach in St. Lucia for eight weeks in the summer and for two years in a row, on a teachers exchange program. So off they went and what a wonderful experience it was. Certainly one of the many highlights of her career.
Gladys & Ron had a country getaway where she enjoyed gardening, hot tubbing and just having fun in the countryside with friends. Her garden was always plentiful resulting in pickling and frozen veggies.
Teaching and guiding children remained her goal in life until a devastating stroke at a very young age.
This stroke made a tremendous change in Gladys’ life. Paralyzing her right side, we were told she would very likely never talk or walk again. Her determination (some called it stubbornness) and of course a great length of rehabilitation…she talked, she walked and even learned to drive.
Living in a multi-level home was a struggle, but again she pushed forward and vacuumed, cooked and did all the home activities she possibly could do.
In the later years her legs were getting tired and she needed to move to assisted living. This was definitely another set back for Gladys. She wanted independence and not servants. However, she soon made some friends and did the best with what life had handed her.
Very suddenly a brief illness crept upon her, and she fought so hard to be with us, but her body was too weak to continue the battle.
We will always remember her laughter and generally her joy of just being with people.
We Love You Gladys.
