Gordon Wallace McDonald

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gordon McDonald, aged 72 years, on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, after a brave, courageous battle with cancer.

Gordon will be sadly missed by his daughter Ashley (Chris); son Jared; brothers and sisters: Maureen, Rick, Bob, Brenda (Chris), brothers-in-law Ken (Lisa), David, sisters-in-law Linda, Valerie, Rose and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Gord was predeceased by his wife Bernice, parents Morgan and Violet; in-laws Richard and Kathleen, brother Mervin, sisters-in laws Lynn, Marlaine, Judi, Adriane, Peggy; brothers-in-law Jerry, Ed, Ernie and Bill.

Gordon was raised on the family farm near Gunton, MB, where he developed a lifelong love of the outdoors. As a Boy Scout, he embraced adventure and had the opportunity to travel to Japan and Australia—experiences that shaped his appreciation for nature and exploration.

Upon returning to Canada, Gordon studied agriculture at the U of M before moving to Manitou, where he began his own family farm. It was there that he shared his love of the land and animals with his children—teaching them to garden, taking them hunting and fishing, and spending time berry picking together.

After farming, Gordon became a crop adjuster for the province, a role that took him to many communities across Manitoba. He later returned to the U of M School of Agriculture as an instructor, where he took great pride in teaching and mentoring the next generation of farmers.

Even in retirement, agriculture remained central to his life. He cherished conversations with friends over coffee about crops and fields. Gord also enjoyed happy hour gatherings with his friends.

Our memories of Gordon will be cherished and held in our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour with a luncheon to follow at the Legion.
