Irene Emily Thomas

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandma, great grandma, sister and aunt, Irene Emily Thomas, on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Sunnywood Manor at the age of 90.

She was predeceased by her husband Ted, her brother Leon as well as several in-laws and friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Ron (Donna), Kerry (Kim), and Debbie. As well she leaves her grandchildren: Megan (Josh), Brooke (Angus), Shelby (Dan), Parker, Carsen (Sean) and Rana-Lynn (Alex) and great grandchildren Keira, Scarlett, Lucy and Leon. Also mourning her passing is her sister Helen and sister in-law Vera.

Mom was born in Jackfish Lake, MB and spent most of her life in the area. Mom met the love of her life at Grand Beach and they had been married for 65 years at the time of dad’s passing. Mom was a great cook and baker which she did for many, many years. From cooking from her home for the road crew that was building Hwy 59, owning and operating a restaurant and service station in Grand Marais and making hot lunches every day for dad’s work crew. As well as countless lunches and meals prepared for family and friends. She was also a fabulous bread baker which is remembered fondly by all who had opportunity to eat or lucky enough to get a loaf. She loved being outdoors as well from picking blueberries, brushing willows, splitting and hauling in firewood. She loved the wildlife too feeding both summer and winter birds, many deer and even scaring away any bears that may have wandered into the yard and was going to eat the “birds seeds”.

Mom was a very kind, genuine hardworking lady with a great sense of humour. Her radiant smile will be cherished forever.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

A special thank you to all the staff at Sunnywood PCH for all the care and compassion they showed toward Irene.
