Janice Carol Omichinski (Nee Repula)

March 28, 1942 — March 28, 2021

1942-2021

With deep sadness, the family announces the passing of our mom and grandma, Janice Omichinski, aged 78 years, on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at Beausejour Hospital.

She was predeceased by her husband Martin of 42 years in 2003, brother Gordon, her parents Michael and Nellie, in-laws Edward and Rose E. Omichinski, and her companion Bill Paseluko.

She is survived by her 3 sons Wes (Cindy), Wyatt, Ward (Brenda), daughter in-law Karen, grandchildren Tyler (Jessica), Hilary (Simon), Jordan (Jason) and Colin, great granddaughter Zoe, niece Tammy and many friends.

Mom was born on December 24, 1942 in Pine Falls, MB and raised in Thalberg on the family farm.  She was proud of the fact she was born and raised on the farm and could operate farm equipment and work with her dad.

Mom and dad met and were married August 19, 1961.  She went from being a farm hand to helping in construction with dad, living out on jobs before the boys were born.  With dad away working on different jobs, mom was often left to raise the boys on her own.  The boys were involved in 4H and she joined us as a Leader.  There she was allowed to let her creative and artistic nature flourish.  Mom had a natural sewing ability, sewing everything from our outfits to wedding dresses.  She had a natural flair for fashion.  This included having a standing hair appointment every Friday for the past 45 years.  She enjoyed drawing, sketching, painting pottery, decorating Ukrainian easter eggs, and even wedding cakes.  She loved to cook and bake and made the best Christmas fruit cakes, paska and cabbage rolls.

Mom had a strong work ethic, starting on the farm and then with dad.  She wasn’t afraid to get things started.  This was evident with her park like yard, planting trees and flowers with the help of her golf cart.  Even in her later years, she would make sure her watering cans were filled so she could tend to her plants on the deck.  Mom had a great talent for arranging flowers that she grew with her own hand.  When mom couldn’t keep up with her own garden at home, she shared a garden with her close friend and neighbour Gertie Shack, who she also made many bus trips to the casinos in the US with.

After dad passed away, Mom and Bill, who had also lost his spouse, spent time together going to the casinos, fall suppers and travelling.  Mom had always loved to travel with Hawaii being her favourite.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Whitemouth Personal Care Home, East Gate Lodge and the Beausejour Hospital Staff for all the care and compassion shown to mom and our family over her time there.  The family also wants to thank all those many people who called upon and helped mom throughout the years after dad passed as these many people made her days and nights less lonely and fuller with their gift of companionship.

Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, February 25 at 10:30 a.m. with private interment to follow in Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Sandhill Cemetery. Those wishing to attend may do so by parking in the Sobering Funeral Chapel parking lot and tuning their radio to 98.1 FM and following COVID-19 restrictions by remaining in their vehicle.  A Celebration of Life will be planned when restrictions are lifted.

If friends and family so desire, donations may be made in Janice’s memory to Beausejour Hospital TV Fund, Box 1614, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.
