JOHN BULMER
1928 - 2026
John Bulmer, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved patriarch, passed away on May 16, 2026, in Pine Falls, Manitoba, at the venerable age of 98. Born on January 13, 1928, in Yorkshire, England, John’s life was a rich tapestry woven with love, dedication, and a remarkable zest for life that touched all who knew him.
John’s journey began in England, where, as a young boy, he embarked on a significant voyage aboard the Aquitania, escorting his mother and sister to a new life in Canada. This early adventure was but the first of many that would define a life steeped in exploration and a restless spirit. His career as a Stationary Engineer with the Abitibi Paper Mill was marked by unyielding commitment and an expert’s precision, traits that mirrored the man himself—steadfast, reliable, and remarkably skilled.
Beyond his professional achievements, John was a man of myriad talents and passions. He built his own home in 1957, a testament to his hands-on ingenuity and craftsmanship. His ability to fix virtually anything—from cabinetry to plumbing—was legendary among family and friends alike. His love for the outdoors blossomed not only in the garden he tenderly maintained well into his late 90s but also in his enthusiasm for swimming, badminton, and vigorous participation in a pipe band where he played and taught drums. Dancing and whistling were his joyous expressions of life’s music, talents that brought delight to many.
John’s travels were extensive and memorable; notably, he journeyed to Hawaii fifteen times and explored the wonders of Southeast Asia. These adventures were shared with a special companion, Evelyn, whom he fell in love with in 1948 and with whom he spent seventy-six years of marriage—a union defined by deep respect, enduring affection, and shared memories. His culinary preferences were simple yet integral to his vitality: an abiding love for bacon, homemade fries, and butter sustaining him through the decades with seemingly boundless energy.
In his final years, John’s love manifested in selfless caregiving to Evelyn, a gesture emblematic of their lifelong devotion. His passing was met with sorrow by many, including his wife Evelyn; their six children—Elizabeth, Dianne (Peter), Allyson (Pat), Kathy (Brad), Carol (Dwayne), and Geoff; the joy of ten grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; as well as special friends Susan and Gene Lazaruk and his nephew Adrian Farmer.
Gratitude is extended to the caring staff of Pine Falls Hospital, whose kindness and professionalism provided comfort and dignity in his last days.
John Bulmer’s legacy is one of enduring love, remarkable skill, and an indomitable spirit. He leaves behind a family and community enriched by his presence, a life well-lived, and memories that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey.
