Lilly Emilie Wittmeier (nee Schnellert)

October 28, 1932 — August 30, 2025

On Saturday evening August 30, 2025, with family present, Lilly was peacefully welcomed into God’s arms. Lilly was predeceased by her husband Harry in 2009 and her infant son Curtis in 1956 who were both there to welcome her to her heavenly home. Lilly was also predeceased by her parents Karl and Maria Schnellert (Welk) and her siblings Adella (Zirk), Roy, Henry, Adina (Pachal) and Edward.

Lilly is survived by her children Les (Diane), and their children Adam (Trish), Kristy (Sean) Cheop, and Evan (Merissa); Wayne (Norma), and their children Brian (Tara) and Jennifer (Shane) Ward; Kevin (Darlene), and their sons Tyler (Kayla), Kurt (Amanda) and Matthew (Melissa); Roxane (Randy) Novakowski, and their daughter Chelsey; Lisa (Tony) Hrynyk, and their daughters Samantha (Jesse) Giesbrecht and Kara (Mike) Grant; Mona (Rodney) Strecker, and their sons Drake and Devan; along with special nieces Barbie Pachal and Rhonda (Tim) Cameron. Lilly was also blessed with 17 great grandchildren and 4 great-great granddaughters. She is also survived by her remaining sister-in-law Ruth Topnik.

Lilly, the youngest of six children, was born on October 28, 1932, in the R.M. of Hanover during an unscheduled trip her parents made to see her grandmother Emilge Schnellert who was ill at the time. She spent her early years growing up on the farm in Friedensfeld before the family moved to their new farm in Glenmoor in 1943.

Lilly found employment in Winnipeg and worked in housekeeping at the municipal hospitals (now Riverview).

Mom met Dad at a local dance, they got engaged on February 9 and were married on May 17, 1952. They lovingly raised their family in Stead where they ran a mixed farm and electrical contracting business. In 2000 when Harry retired, they moved to Beausejour, MB. A year after Dad passed away Mom moved into Moya Doma where she lived until her health started to decline. Mom’s final months were spent at Eastgate Lodge where she was lovingly cared for.

Family and friends were very important to Mom, her door was always open, she was always willing to listen and enjoyed every visit. Mom’s love and caring nature was apparent to all who met her. Mom’s faith was also very important to her, she taught Sunday School, VBS, sang in the choir, was part of the Ladies Aid group and attended church regularly.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 10 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thalberg with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers are grandchildren Adam Wittmeier, Jennifer Ward, Kurt Wittmeier, Matthew Wittmeier, Chelsey Novakowski, and Devan Strecker. Honorary pallbearers are Kristy Cheop and Kara Grant.

Thank you to Eastgate Lodge for the exceptional care that Mom received during her time there.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lilly’s memory to Trinity Lutheran Church; Thalberg, MB. or Eastgate Lodge in Beausejour.
