Lynda (Lyn) Ewing

October 25, 1945 — January 4, 2026

On January 4, 2026, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 9 days, Lyn Ewing, true to form, waited until the last guest was ready to leave the party before taking her final breath. She was a Scientist, Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Daughter, and Friend.

Lyn was the maker of dandelion crowns and gingerbread houses, the writer of code and the collector of roadkill. She still never quite understood how she ended up with only 98% on her calculus test. Lyn never found a skill she wasn’t brilliant at. She sewed wedding dresses, baked ginger snaps and embroidered the most beautiful things. She played the piano, the recorder, and bridge, and had a suspicious amount of luck at all the games we played. Her homemade pasta was legendary.

Lyn loved puzzles and roller coasters, and in her final summer she rode as many fair rides as she could. She only stopped when the rest of us were green around the gills and couldn’t take her on anymore.

She was brilliant, beautiful, and deeply loved, she was incredibly stubborn and fierce. She defied the odds and did not simply survive but truly lived and thrived for 38 years after her Parkinson’s diagnosis. She travelled the world with her husband, Don, and her lifelong friends, Adele and Ray. She was a remarkable example to all of us.

We will miss her.

She is survived by the love of her life, Don; her brother, the handsome and charismatic (according to him) Bill (Val, Noel, Julie, Al, and Braden); and her daughters, grandchildren and great-grand children, Tamara (Mark; Madeline, Rebecca, Nolan, and Anika); Sara (Patrick; Matthew (Marianna and Madison), Devon, and Elizabeth); Amanda (Tom; Alexander (Deidre) and Adele and Ti; Patricia (Jill; Emily (Danny, Zoe, Evan, and Ryan); Megan (Jordan and Iris)); and a lifetime of friends.

We will hold one final party for Mom in the spring. Date and time to be determined.
