Margit Terttu Lindgren

March 12, 1938 — May 14, 2026

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Granny, Auntie - Margit Terttu Lindgren (Tuominen) on May 14th 2026 at the Pinawa hospital at the age of 88. Margit is survived by her children Cory (Julie) and Tannis (Greg), her grandchildren Ryley (Jordan), Hannah, Ethan, and Tyson, Wyatt, Raquel (Matthew) and her precious great-granddaughter Brynn - Mom's little sunshine. She was predeceased by her husband Ronald on March 1st 2022. Life was never the same. Mom was also predeceased by her brother Bentti Tuominen (1935-2023), and three other brothers Nilo (1934-1952), Arno (1939-1943) and Raimo (1936-1939) who passed tragically at young ages while in Pointe du Bois.

Mom was raised in Pointe du Bois on the island in a home her father built (this is where she developed her “sisu”), later moving to Lac du Bonnet, then to Milwaukee Wisconsin where she maintained many friendships over the years; back to Pointe du Bois, then returning to the Lindgren homestead in Riverland. Mom worked for many years for Winnipeg Hydro while in Pointe du Bois. Her parents (John and Suoma Tuominen) immigrated to Canada from Laitila, Finland. Mom spoke fluent Finnish as her first language learning English in school at Pointe du Bois and later perfecting Finnish Sweet Bread (Pulla) and Pancakes. Mom lived a long, productive and busy life. She enjoyed curling, golfing, fishing, playing cards, blue berry picking, flowers, hockey, casinos, countless vacations with friends, camping (Wallace Lake, Long Lake), winters in Yuma, trips back to Finland with her brother Bentti, visiting family in Duluth and Rocky Mountain House. Her last winter getaway was a large Lindgren-Donner family trip to Cozumel Mexico.

Mom had a special place in her heart for all her grandchildren. They will cherish the fun times, memories and family traditions including Finnish saunas and jumping in the iced river, rolling or running in the snow, or just a dip in a pail. Crepes, peanut butter sandwiches with sprinkles, swimming lessons and ice cream. Borrowing cookies from the cookie jar and sneaking beers for parties. Family dinners in Riverland with her famous meat balls and Christmas’s where Santa always showed up. Trips to Arizona. And recently dancing to "Funky Town" with Granny at Raquel and Matthews wedding.

When you let go you finally found peaceful sleep. Dad was waiting for you with open arms, a glass of home made wine, and playing his Accordion. Your Guardian Angel wrapped you in light and protection signaling a new beginning, a new life. We will cherish our last Mothers Day with you. We wish to thank Moms beautiful friends and neighbors for being there for mom as well as the staff at Pinawa hospital for their kind and compassionate care. A big Thank You to Dr Lisa Kroker for not just your Medical Care and Health Support but your Humour. You always put a bounce back in Mom’s step!

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Vaali elämän pieniä hetkiä – lepää rauhassa, äiti.
