Marie Cecile Bernadette Foubert

October 30, 1952 — December 8, 2025

Sadly, in the early morning hours on Dec. 8th, Marie lost her battle with several ongoing health issues, with Randall by her side. She was predeceased by grandmother, Agnes Folster (Joseph) who raised her and birth mother Bernice Fontaine (Art). Marie is survived by husband Randall, two sons Shawn and Travis, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, along with two half sisters Yvette and Debbie (Floyd).

Granddaughter Brittany and her two children, Henry and Holly were very special to Marie, putting a sparkle in her eyes whenever they visited.

Marie was born in Pine Falls on Oct. 30, 1952. She lived in Great Falls and went to school in Powerview where she graduated. Her working career began in the financial sector where she spent almost 20 years. Friendly and trustworthy by nature left Marie vulnerable to unscrupulous, conniving individuals seeking personnel gain both at the workplace and elsewhere.

In 1988 Marie moved to a new home in Silver Falls along the shore of the beautiful Winnipeg River where she operated her own travel business for a few years. She then moved on to become a manager for Manitoba housing, a job she liked very much. Ill health forced her to take an early retirement. Her bookkeeping and records were meticulous both at work and at home long before everything could be stored on the phone or computer. After 15 years in Silver Falls a move was made to our retirement home in Lac du Bonnet.

Being very sociable Marie loved entertaining both friends and family. Many said that she missed her calling and should have gone into the restaurant or catering business. A pig roast, in pouring rain, a corn roast where most of the cobs ended up in the eavestroughs and a chili cook-off at Grey Cup were memorable at Silver Falls, with the purple party and New Year's eve in the gazebo at -30 memorable in LdB. Marie enjoyed meeting friends at the Legion, relaxing by the river or simply soaking up the warm sun on our deck. .

Quite talented at crafts she produced a complete set of Barbie clothing for her grandchildren. She was also skilled at hemming, alterations, etc.

Marie liked to be fashionable, her array of dresses, tops, shoes, summer and winter wear probably only matched by those in Hollywood.

Very active in sports in her younger years Marie was a strong and powerful swimmer, did some water skiing, played slo-pitch and in later years took up golf. Winter activities included bowling and curling, winning awards in both, along with occasional cross country and downhill skiing.

Travel was a big part of Marie's life starting with something as simple as touring back country roads in the old red truck, sometimes with a taboo beverage in hand to more exotic travel which included several trips to the Dominican Republic and Mexico, Yuma, a trip to Hawaii, visits to Texas, Palm Springs, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, a trip to Sweden and she also took in Expo ‘86 in Vancouver.

In 2012 Marie's life was turned upside down with a diagnosis of terminal cancer. She overcame the cancer but shortly afterwards was stricken with severe rheumatoid arthritis. From that day onward her life was consumed by health issues and sometimes healthcare issues. During covid despite being bedridden she was transferred from a local hospital like a farm animal to another location hundreds of kilometers away at Christmas time. Several ambulance transfers later in -30 weather she ended up in the Assiniboine Rehab in Brandon, a blessing in disguise. Marie was so impressed with this facility and what they accomplished for her that she wanted to move there.

The progression of R/A is relentless and in recent years Marie has been confined to a wheelchair, reliant on homecare help. Despite her disability she remained mostly upbeat, often offering to help with household chores. Her final disappointment came last spring when she was told she would have to be moved to the LdB Personnel Care Home, very much against her will. Once she realized that a return home was not in the cards, a downhill progression started ending on Dec. 8.

As per Marie's wishes there will not be a service, possibly a small private celebration of life towards spring.

Special thanks to good friend Joan for her frequent visits and also Agnes for being so caring. To the homecare field staff, to the LdB PCH staff, to any nurses or aides and Doctors who helped Marie these past few years THANK YOU. Marie's favorite song was " You Are My Sunshine ". You are and will remain so forever more.

Donations in memory of Marie would be appreciated to the Cancer Society or the Rheumatoid Arthritis Society.
