It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marlene Ann Lestition (nee Young).
Marlene was born in Macklin, Saskatchewan, and grew up in the nearby community of Handel. Her father, Joseph, was the manager at the Co‑op Gas Station, and her mother, Freda, was a schoolteacher. Marlene’s youth was filled with time spent with siblings: Lorne, Lorna, Dennis, and Kevin as well as numerous cousins and close family.
After graduating high school, Marlene ventured to Saskatoon, where she studied nursing at the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology from 1968 to 1970. She obtained her RN, and moved to Brandon, Manitoba, where she worked at the hospital and lived in the nurses’ residence. It was during this time in Brandon that she met her future husband, Brian Lestition at the Red Caboose, a popular night spot.
Brian and Marlene were married on October 5, 1974. They shared many adventures together, including backpacking through Europe and road trips to visit family. After a short stay in Lac du Bonnet, they eventually settled in Beausejour, Manitoba. Brian taught Grade 6 at Edward Schreyer School, and Marlene worked as a nurse at Concordia Hospital on 3 East, Medicine. She retired in 2015 at the age of 65.
Brian and Marlene raised two sons: Patrick (Sara) and Brett (Roslyn). Marlene was a devoted grandmother to her four grandchildren: Juliet, Alexander, Elowyn, and Benji. She cherished every opportunity to babysit and host family dinners. Marlene treasured her many summer days at Grand Beach with friends and family. She had many friends in the community and cherished her time visiting over coffee.
Marlene was a devoted Christian and a longtime member of Catholic Women’s League. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Daylily Gardens, and always made time for friends in need. She loved cooking, gardening, flowers, and taking care of her home.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the Beausejour Hospital for their compassionate care, and to everyone who called or visited Marlene during her time in hospital.
Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, with a graveside service to follow. Lunch will be served afterward in the church basement, and all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Blood Services.
