September 20, 1977 ~ September 8, 2023
Peacefully, with her husband, two boys and Mom at her side, Monique passed away after a long battle with a rare form of sarcoma.
Left to mourn are her husband of 21 years Greg, sons Owen and Sam and her dog, Savhanah. Monique also leaves behind her mom Sharon (John), brother Jared (Kara), mother-in-law Lydia, brother-in-law Wayne (Tracey), nephews Troy, Kevin, Brayden and Jarvis, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues.
Monique was pre-deceased by her dad Guy Bissonnette, father-in-law Lorne Ewasko, maternal grandparents Anna and Bennie Berge, and paternal grandparents Yvette and Dollard Bissonnette.
Monique was born in Reston, MB and moved at the age of 4 to Selkirk, MB where she did all of her schooling and graduated from Lord Selkirk Regional Comprehensive Secondary School (LSRCSS). In addition to her studies, she participated in the Parents Resource Institute for Drug Education (PRIDE), golf and curling at the provincial level.
She met her future husband Greg when they became teammates on a mixed curling team. They became best friends, graduated from LSRCSS together and were inseparable after that.
She went on to complete a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Manitoba, followed by a Chartered Accountant designation. She was an employee of Price Waterhouse Coopers for many years doing audits within Canada and the USA. After specializing in taxation, she was recruited by Wawanesa Life to establish and manage their taxation team.
Her greatest achievement was raising her two boys, coaching them with their homework, and cheering them on in soccer, baseball, curling and hockey. She was the ultimate “hockey mom”.
Summers were spent at their cottage at Caddy Lake with friends where she enjoyed boating, water skiing, tubing, wakeboarding, bonfires, movies and board games.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 16th, 2023 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E., in Beausejour, MB at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to listen to the service from their cars within the parking lot and vicinity may do so by tuning their radios to 98.1 FM.
Lunch will be served immediately following the service at the Brokenhead River Community Hall.
A private family internment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, a charitable donation in Monique’s memory can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160 – 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 in support of Dr. Shantanu Banerji’s research on Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) that addresses all cancers including Sarcoma.
Many thanks to Dr. S. Banerji for all his care and compassion given to Monique.
