1939 ~ 2019
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our husband, dad, papa; Nick Baker, on June 10, 2019. After a painful battle with Pancreatic Cancer, dad is now in a place where he is free from pain.
Dad was born on August 23rd, 1939 in Cromwell Manitoba. He spent his childhood on a homestead near Seddon’s Corner, later affectionately known as Baker’s Acres. Many amazing memories were made there with his family, his brothers, sister, nieces and nephews; riding sleds and dirt bikes, sleepovers in the caboose, bonfires, and just enjoying each other’s company. The “Old Farm” was dad’s happy place. He loved being in the bush!
He was a hardworking man who adored his family. Dad loved to play cards, especially crib. He will be missed by his usual crib partners, Uncle Bill or Marty. Dad hated when somebody bent the cards or counted their crib points out of turn. Dad liked to putter and tinker. The tools in his shed all had a place and he expected them to be returned to that place.
Dad and his brothers, Paul and Marion, formed Baker’s Drywall around 1970. Steven, Bob and Gary have carried on the tradition forming Baker’s Drywall 2004, keeping the reputation for good quality work intact.
Dad was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Peter and Marion, his sister in law Shirley, nephew Dale, and niece Lisa Baker. Dad also leaves to mourn, his brother Jack, brother Paul (Rosemarie), sister Barbara (Bill); in-laws Bill (Margaret), Gordon (Darlene), Marlene, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Elaine; his children Steven (Donna), Donna (Martin), Bob (Kim), and Gary (Jennifer); his grandchildren Kyle (Megan), Kole (Chelsea), Justine (Sam), Dylan, Mitchel, Sam, Konnor, and Emma. Cremation has taken place, there will be a “Come and Go” Celebration of Life on July 5th from 3-6 pm at Steven’s home located at 71140 Baker Road in Seddon’s Corner. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in dad’s name to CancerCare Manitoba.
We love you dad. We will miss you and will think about you whenever we get passed one too many aces in Pass the Ace. However, we will not eat the card.
