Richard Urbanski, born in St. Boniface, Manitoba, passed away while surrounded by family members in Toronto on September 21, 2025, at the age of 78. Richard had endured a battle with Parkinson’s disease over the last few years of his life: a progressive and debilitating disease that perniciously robbed him of his mobility and health, but never of his tenacity and certainly not his sense of humour.
Richard was a man who valued education, fitness and family above all else. He had an unquenchable love of learning that continued his entire life and strongly believed in the power of education for him and his children. He was also an avid marathoner and runner who was at one time the Ontario Ultramarathon champion. He is remembered fondly by the Ontario running community as someone who would always lend a hand. He is survived by his children, John Paul (JP), William and Kathryn, his grandchildren Elise and Collin as well as his sister Grace and her husband Vern.
He was predeceased by his father Joseph Urbanski, mother Mary Lozinski (Urbanski) and brother Ron Urbanski.
Richard’s ashes will be returned to Beausejour where he will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
