Roman G. Hrychany

January 20, 1943 — June 18, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Roman Gerald Hrychany, who left this world the way he lived in it—on his own terms, with courage in his heart and laughter on his lips.

Born in Selkirk, MB, Roman grew up with dirt under his nails, sun on his shoulders, and a mind full of dreams. From a young age, he found a deep and lifelong love for farming—not just the work of it, but the rhythm, the patience, the pride in growing something from nothing. The land became not just where he worked, but where he lived, breathed, and thrived.

He was wild once, free always. A man who didn’t follow clocks or calendars, he lived by the seasons, by instinct, and by the pulse of his own generous heart. He loved deeply, laughed loudly, and always found the silver lining—even in the stormiest skies. If you needed a shoulder, he was there. If you needed a laugh, he had a dozen ready. He was the kind of person who made even the hardest days easier just by being in the room.

Over the course of 17 years, he faced cancer with the same grit and grace that defined his whole life—quiet strength, stubborn optimism, and a smile that could light up a room. He beat the odds more times than we could count, never once letting illness dim his spirit.

He was more than a farmer. He was our rock. Our anchor. Our safe place. He was a friend to many, a confidant to some, and a lifeline to all of us. His way of doing things—his way—wasn’t always the easiest, but it was always full of intention, patience, and purpose.

We will remember him in the morning sun rising over fields he once walked. In the sound of boots on gravel. In every quiet act of kindness and every stubborn grin. We’ll remember the twinkle in his eye, the calloused hands, the stories he told, and the way he made each of us feel seen.

Roman Hrychany is survived by his daughters Stephanie (Dale), Victoria, and Kate (Bryan). He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Anna, Austin, and Kayden. He also leaves his brother John, and by all of us who loved him more than words can ever say.

In honoring his legacy, we won’t just mourn his absence—we’ll celebrate the beautiful, honest, hardworking life he lived. He taught us to stand tall, to find joy in simple things, and to never forget our roots.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

Many thanks to the doctors and staff at the Beausejour Hospital for all the care and compassion shown to our Dad.

He was ours. And we were his.
