Sheilagh Ann Williams

November 23, 1960 — February 10, 2021

November 23, 1960 ~ February 10, 2021

After a year of fighting cancer, early on a frosty Wednesday morning at Pinawa Hospital we had to let our beautiful mother, partner and friend put on her wings to be with her son once again.

Sheilagh was predeceased by her father Martin, son Scott, cousins Cheryl and Ruth, Uncle Ronald and sister-in-law Tish.  Left behind in mourning are partner Lee, daughter Jennifer (Jeff, Peter, Earl), Mother Helen, sister Sherry (Jeff, Tuki), brother Michael (Chris), nieces Anna and Aleesha, nephews Steven & Caleb, ex-husband Fred, and many other members of our “village”.

Sheilagh grew up on the family farm on the Pinawa Channel, eldest of three children of Helen and Martin Wade. Sheilagh graduated high school in Lac du Bonnet and moved on to start her working career in Winnipeg for Autopac.

It was on the Dewline in NWT where Sheilagh would meet her to be husband, Fred Williams, who would be the father of her two children, Jennifer Lynn and Scott Andrew. Although their marriage was not to last, the two carried on as great friends and raised the children as a team.

As a young woman Sheilagh enjoyed community activities like playing baseball and curling. She was creative in more ways than many people can even imagine. It put a smile on her face to sew young girls figure skating dresses and costumes in Lac du Bonnet, help her sister Sheri with decorating, making her own Christmas décor, and so, so much more.

Sheilagh worked the majority of her career at Manitoba Hydro, first starting with the transmission crew in LDB which then transitioned to a position in Pointe du Bois as an operator. Sheilagh was truly knowledgeable in her career, and it has been said what an amazing trainer she was because of the knowledge she was constantly craving.

When preparing for retirement Sheilagh opened an upholstery business to pursue her love of sewing into retirement, this business was named after her most treasured thing, her children.  Jett Auto Tailor was her passion, and unfortunately it closed with her diagnosis of Cancer before retirement from MB Hydro.

It was complete devastation for Sheilagh when just 3 years before her own passing, cancer took away her youngest child Scott at the age of only 24.

Sheilagh enjoyed traveling with Lee throughout the USA and into Mexico. The two shared a love of classic cars and the Winnipeg Jets. Together the two built a beautiful home along with a stunning collection of flower beds throughout the yard which truly was her pride, gleaming a smile from ear to ear when anyone would come over to see her work or get tips for their own gardens.

Generosity was a core value of our beloved Sheilagh. It made her genuinely happy to help a struggling single mom with groceries, spoiling her favourite neighborhood girls with candy, sending flowers to friends just because or putting 20’s into the salvation army Christmas bin when she probably needed it herself. She just wanted the best for everyone.

In the year before her passing Sheilagh was able to enjoy time with her family, see her daughter married, and listen to the news of Mackenzie and Nicole’s growing baby.  Anything to do with family made her heart so full.  She spent hours working in her gardens, growing perennial Hosta’s for us to enjoy for years and years to come. Although it broke her heart not to be able to travel to Hobby Lobby one last time, luckily, she shopped her little heart out online in compensation.  Sheilagh’s heart was gold and rubbed it off on all who loved up to her.

Sheilagh is going to be missed so terribly by all who knew her.  Every time a flower blooms or a seed is sprouting know that she is there with us, over our shoulders and smiling brightly, because finally, her son is back in her arms.

Thank you so very much to the Pinawa Hospital staff who are truly angels on earth. The ladies and gentlemen on the floor never get enough credit, and for them we are eternally grateful.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Lac du Bonnet Foundation in Sheilagh’s name, as a community minded person she loved watching Lac du Bonnet blossom. A celebration of life for Sheilagh will be held summer 2021, family can be contacted for details in the coming months.
