Memoir

Memories of Stan, my friend, partner, and love of my life for 60 years.

I struggled this past year, but I also know you are happy and well. Memories we made, so many together: moving to the farm; having cattle, which the city girl fell in love with, each one; chickens (bantams), they were everywhere; our chinchillas, they were a joy, that was our Saturday’s together, cleaning each little cage. Our vacations were all so cool; in Vancouver; Peace River was beautiful. Our 2 bests were Key West for that special wedding, and Niagara Falls for our 45th wedding anniversary. Stan, the best times were when we went hunting to Duck Mountain Park, your name was drawn a couple of times. Silence is hard for me at the best of times but when hunting big game, silence, no talking, no opening a bag of chips. As you wait, time is long. Stan would just look at me with that special smile and shake his head. What a beautiful memory. I also got to be part of the hunting plan when Stan hunted in our area. I got to help him get the deer to the truck. Well, Stan would call, give me directions to where he was and we would meet, then walk down the path to his deer. Carrying it out, Stan in front, I am at the back, so I said to Stan, “What kind of path is this?” He calmly said, “Bear”. I said, “We had better walk faster.” Stan was laughing to the truck.

Kelly (nephew) and Chris (friend) each have great memories of Stan as the three of them are big game hunters. Their memories have been shared with me many times. Each of them has their own special hunting trip with Stan that would take place every fall. The phone would ring. I would hear one side of the conversation, “Where? What time? I will be there.” The three are passionate deer hunters, except this year without Stan. His hunting spirit will be with each of them. Kelly and Chris, when you step out into the early morning’s crisp November air, Stan’s spirit will be there, so you get that perfect White Tail buck.

Memories of us sitting in our yard in the evening, with a bonfire, enjoying the evening. On New Year’s Eve, we would do fireworks for a fun evening. Snow sparkles like diamonds.

A few memories of Stan, who I miss every day. One day we will meet and sit together on our beautiful bench.

Rest in Peace my dear.

Love you always,

Dianne
