It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Vernon Thane Fontaine aka “Pansy”, beloved son, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, papa, cousin and friend, at the age of 57 years old. Pansy was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba and raised in Winnipeg. Pansy attended Isaac Brock School in his youth and played on the Isaac Brock hockey team. One memorable time was the Isaac Brock hockey team winning the provincials, our parents were very proud. Pansy also attended Tec Voc High School. Pansy was a kindhearted, caring, loving, generous and comical man. He held so much love for his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He kept a close bond with them and gave them whatever he could. Pansy liked to joke around and laugh. His laughter was contagious. Even through illness he joked around and laughed. Pansy will be remembered for his talent of impersonating Elvis on a dance floor, singing Johnny Cash, warm smile, and making everyone feel welcome.
Pansy is survived by his mother, Celine Fontaine, siblings Melvin (Richard), Kirby (Marie), and Lana (Carey), son Thane and his children Asher, Skyla and Summer, daughter Chelsea and her son Kashtyn, son Jaden, nieces and nephews. Numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
Pansy was predeceased by his father, Melvin Sr., sisters Sheila and Beverly, paternal grandparents Alex Fontaine & Virginia Bunn (John), maternal grandparents John Skeet Sr. (Dorothy) & Myrtle Bouchard (Julian), spouse Theresa Swampy, nephews Bradley Munro & Colton Guimond, niece Milani Fontaine, aunt Lorna McPherson, uncles John Skeet Jr. & Faron Fontaine.
Wake services Wednesday, January 7 at 1:00 p.m. at the Anglican Church, Hwy. 11, Fort Alexander, MB. A Celebration of his life will be held on Friday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Roman Catholic Church, Hwy 11, Fort Alexander, MB. No burial to take place, an interment to follow later.
Pallbearers, Melvin Guimond, Fabian Bunn, Darryl Spence, Aundre Munro-Fontaine, Byron Guimond and Jade Alexander. Honorary Pallbearers children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
We want to thank the Doctors and Nurses that provided him with great care at the Grace Hospital ICU and Health Science Centre IICU.
Pansy, you leave behind a legacy of love, laughter and unforgettable memories. We will carry his spirit with us always.
