It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, Violet Ketola Fraser on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the age of 88.
Violet was predeceased by her mother and father, Rose and Eric Malmstrom; her two wonderful husbands, Elmer Ketola, and Donald Fraser; sister Maria; brother-in-law Bob; sister-in-law Marilyn; stepson Danny; stepdaughter-in-law Janet; and step grandson Todd.
Violet leaves to cherish her memory, her son’s Rodney (Karen), David (Sandra), and stepson Chris; grandchildren, Brittany (Matt), Danielle, Andrew (Ashley), Matthew (Karra), Daniel (Christine); step grandchildren, Chad (Ashley), Jacklyn (Meshia), Robyn (Rob); great grandchildren, Hudson, Paisley, Archer, Quinton, Jackson, Mia, Peyton; step great-grandchild River; brother George; and many extended family and friends and longtime friend Eilleen Pischk.
Violet was born and raised in Garson, MB until the age of ten. Then the family moved to Winnipeg where she finished her schooling. She then went on to nursing school and graduated as a Registered Nurse and worked at St. Boniface Hospital. In 1963 she married Elmer Ketola. They settled in East Kildonan and raised their family together, spending lots of time at their boathouse in Point du Bois, boating, fishing and making many happy family memories until Elmer’s passing in 1974. Later on Violet met Donald Fraser and in 1986 they married, retired and moved to Great Falls, MB. They spent many happy retirement years travelling, camping, and going to the “Beach” with family and friends. After Donald’s passing in 2009, Violet remained in Great Falls until 2023. She then moved to Beausejour to be closer to her family. In 2026 Violet went into Beausejour Hospital where she spent the rest of her days here on earth.
The family would like to extend our heart felt thank you to the home care workers, and the entire staff of Beausejour Hospital for all the wonderful care and compassion that you gave to our mom in her final days.
As per Violet’s request, cremation has already taken place. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to make a donation to a charity of your choice in Violet’s memory.
Mom, we will miss you forever and remember you always.
