Alfred Borkowsky

1926 ~ 2016

Alfred Borkowsky, 90, of Beausejour Manitoba passed away Tuesday October 4, 2016 at the Beausejour Hospital.

Alfred is survived by his wife Christine of 66 years, daughters Karen (Larrie), Valerie (Darrell) and Donna; grandchildren Colleen (Mark), Jonathon (Breanne), Christopher; great-grandchildren Alec, Mathew and Justin MacIvor; step grandchildren Mary Somerville (Jared) and Robert (Kara) Somerville and step great-grandchildren Brett (Mel), Nola and Janie.

Alfred was predeceased by his son Gary Curtis, parents Gottlieb and Eva, his brothers Gottlieb (Christine), Johnny (Lydia), Henry (Luella), his sisters Lydia (Emil) Mantie, Minnie (Bert) Carriere, Molly (Jim) Rivard, Christine (Bill) Fiebelkorn and Hedwig Borkowsky.  He is survived by brothers and sisters Emanuel (Ethel) Borkowsky, Irene (Jack) Schinkel, Esther (Ed) Wonnek, Joyce (Andy) Nehaj and Herby (Doreen) Borkowsky.

Alfred was born on the family farm in the Bristol school district in 1926.  He helped on the farm until his family relocated to a farm in Glenmoor, MB in 1942.  As a young adult Alfred worked at Hurst Engineering, CP Railway and Winnipeg Cold Storage in Winnipeg.

In 1947 he met the love of his life Christine Fiebelkorn, who he married in 1950.  Alfred loved the cycle of life in farming and he and Christine worked this together, side by side, for the next 44 years. During the early years, he also worked in the bush cutting pulp as well as Duron Concrete on occasion.

Alfred was an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church.  His biggest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing games, dancing, fishing, gardening and of course family gatherings.

The family would like to thank Dr. Nicholas Van Rensburg, the nurses and support staff at the Beausejour Hospital for the tender care they provided as well as the Doctors and staff at the Selkirk & District General Hospital SCU.  Thank you also to all his Home Care Workers for their attentive care.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue East, Beausejour with viewing one hour prior to the service.  Pastor Ward Yunker will be officiating.  Interment will follow in the Beausejour Town Cemetery.  Pallbearers are Larrie Somerville, Darrell Dunning, Christopher Dunning, Jonathon Dunning, Mark MacIvor and Alec MacIvor.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church – Box 538 Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0 or The Manitoba Lung Association – 1 Wesley Ave., Unit 301 Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C8.

Our deepest symphathy go to Aunt Christine, Karen, Valerie and Donna and your families. You are in our thoughts and prayers as you grieve for your loved one. May God surround you with his comfort & peace and bring to mind all the wonderful memories of a treasured Husband, Father and Grandfather.
My fondest memory of Uncle Alfred was his love of dancing. As a young girl I watched as he elegantly twirled Aunt Christine around the dance floor and I was always in awe that he never missed a step.
    Rest in Peace Uncle Alfred.
We will miss you. Denice and Lloyd
