Arnold Urban

Arnold Urban was born on February 11, 1920 to his parents Edward and Olga Urban at his home in Newcombe, in the R.M. of Lac du Bonnet.

He was predeceased by his parents and all his siblings: Vivian, Waldie, Anzie, Jack and Chickie.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Gladys (Marcusson); his sons Douglas (Roberta) and Allan (Cathy); his grandchildren Cheryl (Rougeman), Michael, Sue Allyn, and Andrew; his great grandchildren Bryston, Samantha and Rose.

He was a loving, caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  All his friends and associates will surely remember his great talent, his brilliant mind, his kindness and that he was honest to a fault.

Dad managed to get around with a grade seven education; after that he was self-taught.  As a young man, he built a wind generator supplying electricity to their home, he built a fence line telephone system for the neighborhood long before it was available, and he managed to fix a broken car he got on the road before he was sixteen.

His first job was as an auto mechanic, then he served in the army in WWII.  This was followed by garage owner and farm equipment sales, with rural electrification into electricity, adding oil furnaces and sheet metal to the business.  Later he added eavestroughs and electric heat.  He could figure out and fix just about anything.  All his businesses were Urban Sales & “Service” which is what he gave.

Dad was well known; he worked for and helped people into his nineties.  He and his pal Betty played monthly at the Lac du Bonnet Care Home for, as he put it, the “old people”!

Arnold was stricken with pneumonia on November 4, 2016 and taken to Pinawa Hospital where he never fully recovered.  His last wish was to see his beloved wife Gladys.  This came true on February 11 on his 97th birthday.  He managed to tell her of his love and said his goodbye.  Four days later, the old warrior left us peacefully at 9:00 p.m. on February 15, 2017.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 25 at 11:00 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion in Lac du Bonnet.

Rest in peace.

Thank you for everything.

With all our love.
