Brian Schwark

In Memorial

April 14, 1967 – September 14, 2023

It is with sad hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our son, brother, uncle and great-uncle, Brian on Thursday, September 14 at his home in Winnipeg at the age of 56.

Brian will be lovingly remembered by his mom Florence, brother Rick, sisters Janet (Ross) and Karen (Ernie), numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and his roommate Rick.

Brian was predeceased by his dad Charlie and his two brothers Melvin and Donnie.

Brian was born in Beausejour, MB.  He attended Edward Schreyer School and Selkirk Comp. School where he graduated.  A few years later he moved to Winnipeg where he worked at a few different jobs.  He was hired on at MPI and worked there until his passing.

At a young age Brian loved stock car racing.  He would tag along with older brother Melvin and Rick to Winnipeg Speedway, earning himself a spot on Rick’s Pit Crew.  In Brian’s spare time he loved to build car models and watch car racing on TV.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E., Beausejour with interment to immediately follow in the Beausejour Town Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy, 204-825 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3A 1M5 or a charity of your choice.

My thoughts are with this wonderful family. Life doesn’t seem fair at times, and although I haven’t seen Brian in many years, he had his share of struggles. May Brian rest in peace.

I also worked with Brian for many years, starting on Switchboard myself in 1999. He was quite the character, and we had fun sharing some great memories and stories throughout the years. He made a lot of people smile at MPI, and was always kind, helpful and courteous with his calls; even the more challenging ones. My deepest condolences go out to his family at this time. ❤❤

I’m heartbroken to hear this news. I became the manager of the Contact Centre in 2004 and remained until I retired in 2012. I came to know Brian very well and we developed a great friendship with him during that time. My door was always open and Brian would seek me out if he needed assistance with the challenges he faced to be able to do his job to his fullest capacity.

He was such a positive and engaging person. He will be missed. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

My sincere condolences. I worked with Brian for 9 years, and he was always quick to smile, chat about the day, and talk shop, on good days and tough alike. His experience and willingness to share made for such a welcoming, professional, and friendly reception to the workplace, and the years to follow. Truly saddened to hear, and all the more appreciative of the example he set and our time. May he rest in peace.

I also worked with Brian. Everytime I would walk in for my morning or afternoon shift he would say Hello and deliver a joke to start the day!

Such a friendly guy. You will be missed by many in the Contact Centre!

    Rest In Peace Brian.

My sincere sympathy to all of Brian’s family. I had a nice 5 hr. conversation with Brian a night before his passing and we were reminiscent of old times. It lightens his passing knowing we had a little time and closure with each other that night, but non the less it will hurt my heart with him gone. I love you Brother till we meat again!

I was so sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. I was fortunate to get to know Brian during my time in the MPI Contact Centre and we stayed in touch until my retirement in 2019.

No matter the day or the circumstances, Brian was always in a great mood and this came through in his communications with customers. He also never backed away from starting up a conversation, and those he spoke to always felt better for the interaction. Brian was a great person and a wonderful MPI ambassador.

My deepest condolences to Brian’s family. I can still picture him and my brother hanging out at our house when they were young. Brian had such a great sense of humour and would tease me like a little sister. He felt like part of the family.
