Donald William Hill

In Memorial

April 13, 1946 ~ February 1, 2023

We are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of Donald William Hill, on February 1, 2023.

Don is survived by son Erin (Odilia) and their children Katia and Tatyanna; son Kristjan (Elise) and their children Emilie, Alica (Michael) and their daughter Wren, Marc and Lucas; and son Robert (Quinn) and their children Brody, Ryder and Olivia; special friend Sandra; and bonus children Wendy, and Christine (son Gavin).

Don was predeceased by his loving wife Mary of 53 years in 2020, and his parents, Charlie and Emma Hill.

Don was born in Pine Falls, Manitoba on April 13, 1946 and grew up in Seven Sisters Falls, where he met Mary, whose family had a cabin nearby. Don and Mary were married on May 19, 1967 and were blessed with three sons, Erin, Kristjan and Robert. Don worked up north for a time, later working at Atomic Energy before starting Don Hill Construction, which became a well-known name in the Whiteshell area. Don worked hard and was good at what he did, with many of his customers over the years became lifelong friends.

After Mary’s passing, Don kept busy by continuing to care for their large garden, canning, making perogies, baking bread, buns and his famous cookies – which he shared with many of us.

Special thanks to Dr. Partyka, and the staff at Pinawa Hospital for their care and compassion during Don’s final days.

Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date.

We are so sorry to hear of Don’s passing. He and your mother were wonderful campers and campground hosts for years. We also enjoyed that they visited us several times since we moved to Grand Forks 5 years ago. Don was a great friend. You all have our sympathy.

Our condolences to the Hill families. We will greatly miss Don & Mary. Many years were spent camping at Icelandic State Park with them and all our kids. Always enjoyed when they came down to the States for a visit, & we had fun at their home in Seven Sisters Falls. Prayers & Hugs. Garnett & Bev

Erin, Kristjan, Rob, and families. I was so sorry to hear about Don’s recent health problems and passing. May God give you comfort and peace in the days ahead. First met Don and Mary at Icelandic State Park and spent many days there with them and enjoyed the visits to your homes in Canada. Was thankful to be able to host them in my home at Crystal for several years. Both Don and Mary were very special friends and will be greatly missed. Take comfort that they are now in God’s eternal heavenly home where as believers we will see them again.

My deepest condolences to you all. Your family was my family when we were growing up, and although our lives took different paths and we didn’t see each other much as adults, I always held your parents as very dear to me and have many good memories of them both.

Erin, Kris and Rob, so sorry to hear of your Dad’s passing. I first met Don in high school in Whitemouth and then again in Seven Sisters when we both lived there. Along with Mary we were on the Community Club executive, organized Country Sunshine Nursery School, worked together at Whitemouth School and served on council at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Lots of fond memories and good times together!
