Edna Singbeil

May 7, 1920 to September 29, 2010

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Edna Singbeil on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at Betel Personal Care Home in Selkirk, with her daughter by her side.

Edna was born May 7, 1920 in Jackfish Lake. She met the love of her life Egon Singbeil while working on the farm and they were married on July 27, 1940. A year later, they were blessed with their daughter Irene and then 12 years later they were blessed with their son Frank.

Edna loved to knit and made many hats and slippers for her grandchildren and others. She was very involved in her community participating at the Weston Community Center and Bingo. She entered her apple pies in contests and won many awards. Edna loved to have her grandchildren visit and stay with her, and she spoiled them rotten.

She will be sadly missed by her children Irene (Don) Schmidt, and Frank (Jocelyne) Singbeil; grandchildren Michael (Kathy) Lacroix, Brenda (Randy) Olafson, Leanne (Rory) Whitley, Kayla and Courtney Singbeil; great-grandchildren Aurrie, Eric, Nichole and JaNae; her very special sister Margaret Skaronek, brother-in-law Wally Singbeil and several nieces and nephews. Edna was predeceased by her husband Egon in 1996.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Betel Personal Care Home for their kind and compassionate care of Mom over the past 5 years.

Cremation has taken place at Sobering Funeral Chapel in Beausejour. A memorial service and celebration of Edna’s life will be held on Monday, October 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude’s Anglican Church in Grand Marais. Interment will take place at Jackfish Lake Cemetery immediately following the service.
