Elizabeth “Betty” Schinkel

March 28, 1939 — March 28, 2021

1939 ~ 2021

It is with deep sadness the family announces the passing of our mom, grandma, great grandma, sister and friend, Betty Schinkel on Friday, March 26, 2021 at the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home.

Betty was predeceased by her mother Agnes Kalis and father Ernest Kalis, husband Ron, son Joe and daughter Cathy.  She leaves to mourn her sons Doug (Val) and Don, daughter Denise, daughter-in-law Amanda (late Joe Brown), grandchildren Christopher (Dianna), Douglas, Tiffanii (Eddie), Joey (Kelly), Fallon (Murray), Cory (Vanessa), Andy (Alyssa), Sara (Neil), and Justin (Hazel), numerous great grandchildren, and many friends and in-laws.

Mom was born in Stonewall, MB in 1939.  She married her first husband, Allan Brown, and they moved to a small mining community Werner Lake (Gordon Lake), Ontario where they raised five children.  She worked at Hudsons Bay Company while there.  She was very active and enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobile racing, singing talent shows, and strumming her guitar with neighbours and friends at home.  She also loved curling and skipped a team for years.

Mom moved to Lac du Bonnet in the early 70’s and worked at Casey’s Inn, True Value, Surfside Restaurant and Campbells grocery store through the years.  She met and married the love of her life Ron in 1980.  They had over 33 wonderful years together.  Mom and Ron (papa) loved the outdoors and loved to go camping at Grand Beach, fishing and cruising around in their convertible.  Mom retired and took on a love for Bingo and breakopens and was her outing three times a week, which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Saturday mornings at Moms was the place to be enjoying a cup of coffee and great conversation and a whole lot of laughter and it will surely be missed.

“We love you mom.

Your love planted the most beautiful memories

 in our minds and hearts

and we will carry them with us

forever.”

Lay down your sweet and weary head

You have come to journeys end.

Sleep now

And dream of the ones who came before you

They are calling from across a distant shore

Soon all of your fears will pass away

You’re only sleeping

We have come now to the end

White shores are calling

And we will meet again.

Special thanks to the Lac du Bonnet Personal Care Home Staff for their care and compassion, Dr. Bruneau, and Bob and Jackie Hampshire.  To all, thank you for thoughts, prayers, flowers and your amazing support.

Cremation has taken place and the family is planning a family graveside service at a later date.
