Gordon Pommer

November 27, 1932 — February 18, 2023

November 27, 1932 ~ February 18, 2023

Our beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather went to heaven to join his wife on February 18, 2023.

He is survived by his son Daniel, daughter Sandra and husband Neill, daughter Connie; sister Ruth; grandchildren Jennifer, Melissa and husband Kevin, David and wife Kayla, Curtis and wife Roberta, Michael and friend Crystal, Maricela and fiancée Cameron, Johnathon and fiancée Paula, Matthew and wife Morgan and Victoria.  He also leaves behind numerous great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife Louise; parents Jakal and Hulda; daughter Valerie; granddaughter Jillian; brothers Del and Wayne.

Gordon lived to reach his 90th birthday and during his lifetime he lived to see the country change throughout the years.  Gordon grew up in the River Hills, Seven Sisters area and spent his younger years on the farm stead helping his dad clear land for a few head of cattle and horses they owned at the time.  He also worked with his dad in the winters setting trap lines throughout the Whiteshell where he would be gone for months at a time.   Gordon and his dad worked closely through his early years and into adulthood cutting pulpwood for the Pine Falls paper mill.  As he grew into a man, his work experience continued to grow where he went on to work driving a dynamite truck, hauling gravel and working with large equipment building roads and highways.

In 1958 he met and married Louise Zielke who was to be his wife for the next 62 years before she passed away in 2020.

He went into dairy farming after moving his family to a larger acreage in Julius in 1970 and lived many years on the farm.  In 2001 he moved with his wife to Beausejour to retire and do some travelling.  He was 77 when he first experienced travelling in a plane and at the time was the oldest traveler the plane had for a first-time traveler.  In his travels he went to British Columbia as well as Niagra Falls but was happiest just driving around his hometown province of Manitoba reminiscing about having worked in various places as well as building a number of different roads.

We will all miss his smile and his goofy little antics.  He leaves a legacy of memories and stories for family and friends to cherish.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the Beausejour hospital, Doctor Partyka and the hospital staff for their help and care during our dad’s crises.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour, MB with viewing one hour prior.  Interment to follow in the Beausejour Town Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.
