Hazel Violet Blasko

August 26, 1926 — March 15, 2024

August 26, 1926 ~ March 15, 2024

It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved aunt Hazel Blasko on Friday, March 15, 2024 at the tender age of 97 at her home in Lac du Bonnet, MB.

Hazel was pre-deceased by her loving husband Frank in 1987, father Philip Hamelin in 1989, mother Ethel Rasmussen in 1958, and siblings Frankie, Arthur, Nora, Robert and Eleanor.  She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews Lynda (Raymond), Roberta (Floyd), Mary (Gord), Sandra, Philip, Donald and Ted (Desneige). Her great nieces and nephews Kathy (Gerry), Beverly, Nicole, Mark (Ketri), Kevin (Danielle), Cameron (John), Kristy (Richard), Brenden, David, Wyatt, Daniel, Samantha, Breanne, Kaitlyn and Brookly.  Hazel is also a great great Auntie to Andrew, Breann, Monique, Joel, Erik, Chloe, Everette, Talon. As well as a great great great Auntie to Charlie-lynn.  As well as her extended family Angie (Curtis), Tracy (John), Mike, and Mark (Kate), Tucker, Sydney, Brooke, Gabe, Kylie, Seth and Nixon. She will be sorrowfully missed by all.

Hazel was born at home in East Braintree, MB where she resided there until 1936.  It was there that she attended Glen School.  The family moved to Winnipeg where they resided for a short time but later that year moved to a quarter section on the 44 highway where they resided until this day.

In her younger years she found the love of her life Frank Blasko where they resided in the RM of Lac du Bonnett, MB.  They lived together for over 30 years when they decided to get married in 1985.  Hazel loved her nieces and nephews and would never miss a family event.  Hazel enjoyed playing bingo and cards and there would be times when she would be up until midnight playing card games with her family.  Hazel also loved to go to the lake with her sister Eleanor and hang out in the camper together, barbeque, go fishing and swimming, and ride the 4 wheeler on the beach.  Hazel had a passion for being outside to garden, go blueberry picking, and to feed the chipmunks and birds.  She also enjoyed canning and being in the kitchen.  Hazel knew how to enjoy life, joke around and was always on the go.

We would like to thank Carol Burnelle for always being there for our auntie, especially the day she passed.  We appreciated how you always checked in on her, called her on the phone to talk, and helped her with her shopping and running errands.  We would also like to thank the RCMP and EMS for their care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Hazel’s memory to an animal charity of your choice.

A funeral service will be held on March 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. E, in Beausejour.  Interment will follow in Lac du Bonnet Cemetery.
