John (Jack) Asquith Arran

John Asquith Arran (Jack) passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on July 18, 2019 at the age of 84 years. 

Jack was born in Virden, Manitoba on June 5, 1935 subsequently moving to Glenboro until 1954. Jack met Donna Anderson in 1956. They were married in Stockton, MB and then moved to Brandon. Jack and Donna had two children, Kevin and Christine. 

Jack worked for Canada Safeway as a meat manager. In 1980, Jack and Donna decided to invest in their own business and bought the locker plant in Beausejour, MB.  They changed the name to Jack’s Meat Market. Jack met a lot of very nice people by having the business and continued the friendships to this day.  

Jack’s wife Donna passed away in 1990 with complications from asthma. 

In 1995 Jack married Phyllis Leslie and they lived in a dome house on the Brokenhead River until buying a condo in Beausejour in 2015. 

Jack sold his business in 2004 and they then spent the next 10 winters in Yuma, Arizona.

Jack was very involved in both the Brandon and Beausejour Lions Clubs and spent many hours volunteering as a driver with CancerCare Manitoba.

Jack leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Phyllis, son Kevin (Susan), daughter Christine (Brian Dillabough), grandchildren Angela (Mark) Antunes, Ryan (Kayley) Arran and Dolan Sloan: five great grandchildren, Ashley and Ethan Antunes, Charley and Emmett Arran and Layla Sloan. Also surviving are his sisters June Nordman and Dorothy (Keith Vrooman) and brother Bill (Diane Arran), plus numerous nieces and nephews.   Also mourning is Donna’s brother Mervyn Anderson and Phyllis’s son Don MacLeod, daughter Heather (Wayne Howell), and their sons Michael and Andrew Howell.  

Jack was predeceased his parents Abraham and Mary Arran, by his first wife Donna, sister Bea (Clyde King), brother Bob (Dorothy Arran), sister Marie (Don Steele) and brother in law Herb Nordman.

A celebration of Jack’s life will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30 at the Beausejour Legion. A family interment will take place in the Beausejour Cemetery.
