Jean Tobac

January 11, 1932 to January 2, 2010

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom and Baba, Jean Tobac on January 2, 2010 with her family by her side at the Pinawa Hospital.

Jean was a lifelong resident of Lac du Bonnet area and was involved in many community organizations. She was a Member of the Lac du Bonnet Ladies Auxiliary Legion Branch #164 for over 30 years. Jean enjoyed curling at the Pioneer Club during the winters. Summer was her favorite season as she could sit outside watching her flowers grow. Jean enjoyed travelling and saw many parts of the world including her favorite country – Russia. Jean and Steve spent 9 years as snowbirds in Texas and 4 years in Arizona near her daughter Patti.

She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her children; David (Brenda), Patti (Mike) and Gerri (Don) and her grandchildren Kate, Matthew, Sydney and Micki. She is predeceased by her husband Steve who passed away April 2, 2006.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Pinawa Hospital for their care and comfort in Jean’s final days. Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to Dr. Van Gend for his compassion and devotion during this difficult time. A special thank you goes out to all the home care workers especially Tracey and Val and the hospital nursing staff including Natalie, Anita, Laurie, Jamie, Gerta, Tori, Sonja and Bruce.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held with interment at the Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made In Memory of Jean Tobac c/o The Pinawa Hospital Cancer Care Program Box 220 Pinawa Hospital, Pinawa, Manitoba R0E 1L0

What is dying?
A ship sails and we stand
Watching it till it fades on the horizon, and
Someone at our side says
“It is gone.”
Gone where?
Gone from our sight, that’s all;
It is just as large as when we saw it …
The diminished size
And total loss of sight is in us, and
Just at that moment when someone at our side says,
“It is gone,”
There are others who are watching it coming
And their voices take up a glad shout
“There it comes” and
That is dying.

We will love you forever Baba!
