Karan Carmichael (Nee Munro)

March 1, 1948 — March 9, 2024

March 1, 1948 ~ March 9, 2024

Peacefully, on a bright and sunny Saturday morning, Karan Ruth Carmichael (née Munro) left us to join her friends and family in Heaven.  Left to cherish her memory is her husband Robert, of 57 years, son Daryle (Lisa), granddaughters Courtney (Nic) and Brittany, and her beloved dog Sugar.  Karan is survived also by twin brothers Brian (Darlene) and Bruce (Bonnie), sister Maxine (Sean), sisters-in-law Rosemarie Doyle and Shirley Munro, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  She was predeceased by her son Travis, father John Brodie Munro, mother and stepfather Naomi and Max Hewitt, mother and father-in-law Joe and Edith Carmichael, brother Harvey Munro, sister and brother-in-law Donna and Ted Carmichael, sister-in-law Mary Howard, brother-in-law John Doyle, and nephews Chris and Brodie Carmichael.

Karan Ruth Munro was born in Winnipeg in 1948 and spent her younger years in Victoria Beach and Portage la Prairie.  Karan and Bob were married in September 1966 and settled in Beausejour in 1974, where they raised their two sons Daryle and Travis.  Once in Beausejour, they made friends with the neighbourhood families, most of whom all lived on Gertrude Ave.  Weekends were often spent travelling back to Portage to keep family ties strong with all the sisters, brothers, and cousins.  She became a member of the Jaycettes and worked in many of the local businesses; Shuster’s Lucky Dollar and The Purple Onion being two of her favourites.

Karan was overjoyed when Courtney and Brittany were born, excited to be a grandma.  She spoiled them with toys and clothes at special occasions and treasures from garage sales around town.  In later years, she found happiness going on camping trips with Bob, Courtney, and Brittany to Lilac Resort and Great Woods.  Another thing which brought Karan a lot of enjoyment, were her dogs throughout the years.  She adored Shadow, Angel, Daisy, and Sugar with all her heart.  In 2017, she suffered a stroke and grieved through the passing of her son Travis, which she never truly recovered from.  In the fall of 2019, East-Gate Lodge Personal Care Home became her new home, where she got to spend time and form a greater connection with her granddaughters who both work there.  She was able to come out of the home over many weekends, with her last time being in late October, thanks to Bob providing the extra support and loving care.

The family would like to thank everyone who has cared for Karan over the years, Dr. Nick Van Rensburg for his care and compassion and the staff at East-Gate Lodge for all of their hard work and dedication.

Karan’s Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave. East, Beausejour.
