September 11, 1930 ~ August 11, 2021
Mary passed away peacefully at Blenheim Lodge in Vancouver, B.C.
She will be deeply missed by her sons, Dale and his wife Trish, Kurt and her grandchildren Isaac, Sierra and Mason, along with her surviving siblings, older brother Paul and younger sisters Elaine and Edna. She also left behind many cherished relatives and friends.
Mary was born and raised on the family farm in Greenwald, Manitoba. After completing high school she moved to Winnipeg where she attended Success College before meeting her loving husband Harold. Their life journey took them to Red Lake, Ontario where Dale was born. Shortly after his birth they went back to Winnipeg for a short time before heading off to Los Angeles, California where Kurt was born. Then it was on to Pontiac, Michigan before finally returning to Mary’s roots in Beausejour in 1975.
Mary’s great sense of humor and fun loving attitude brought her many friends and admirers. While always being a devoted mother and wife she also found time to help out with Church activities and the Beausejour Hospital Auxiliary.
One of Mary’s most enjoyable experiences was when Mary and her dear friend Barb Kozyra opened a small restaurant in town called “The Purple Onion”. You could always be assured of a few laughs along with the best Perogies in town while Elvis was playing in the background.
When Harold suffered a devastating stroke, Mary worked tirelessly caring for him along with her own mother at the same time. Trudging through the cold and snow in the middle of the night between their houses to make sure they were safe and comfortable. Her nurturing side was unsurpassed.
Mary will always be remembered for her joking side, fun loving attitude, and loving devotion to her family and friends.
A service will be held on August 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour, Manitoba.

My sincere condolences to Dale and Kurt and their families upon the passing of the dear Mom, and grandmother. We used to be neighbours on Park ave. And I will always remember Mary as a fun-loving lady, but yet very kind and helpful. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. May she Rest In Peace.

Hi Dale/Kurt. Sorry to hear about your Mom. Mary gave us and many others wonderful memories to reflect on. Ian and I would like to offer our condolences to both of you, Kurt and families.
I became acquainted with Mary when Harold contracted with us to build our future family home. Mary graciously welcomed us to their home as we discussed plans. Mary was truly Harold’s life partner in business, and as his devoted wife and loving mother of their sons. Throughout the years, we occasionally saw each other; including when my daughters and I checked out Mary and Barb’s wonderful fare at the Purple Onion. I recall Mary’s invitation to visit after Harold’s stroke.
Loving caregiver and gracious hostess (to family and friends, many whom I met, including Mary’s mother) aptly describe Mary.
Mary reconnected, again, months prior to her move to BC (to be closer to her sons and their families). During those visits, she reminisced about her life, the adventures she and Harold and sons had as they moved to different locations, showing me many photos of those earlier years.
Mary, a fun-loving friend, and I enjoyed time “out on the town” conversing and laughing with others as we enjoyed her favorite food, pierogies.
I considered our friendship a blessing; she was an inspiration to me as I later prepared for my own relocation to be closer to my daughters and their families.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of Mary’s family who are blessed with the wonderful memories that they shared with her throughout the years.
