Mary Lucko

March 28, 1927 — March 28, 2016

1927 ~ 2016

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our dearly loved mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt and friend. Mom passed away on January 3, 2016 at her home, The Ironwood, in Pinawa at the age of 88.

Mom is survived by her 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Patricia (Bill) Brokke, (Laura (Jason), Violet and Grace), Crystal (Jason); Lynda (Doug) Krampetz (Jeffrey, Carly (Scott), Matilynn, Annika and Jillian), Kevin; Angela (Bill) Loftus (Shawn, Matthew, Colin and Ryan); Brian (Claire), (Robin (Helen), Bronwyn and Adalyn); Raymond (Maureen), Christiana, Amy, Aaron; Doreen (Randy) Enns (Steven, Lisa (Mack)). She is also survived by 3 brothers, 3 sisters and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Dorothy Meier, husband Ted, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.

Mom was born January 11, 1927 on her grandparent’s farm in Tramping Lake, Saskatchewan. She grew up on the family farm and later moved to Edmonton to find work. While there, she found the love of her life, Ted, at a dance. They married in 1954 in Edmonton and later moved to Winnipeg to raise their family. Mom was very devoted to her faith. She was an active member of the St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and of the CWL for over 50 years. She assisted our Dad with numerous activities including beekeeping( for which she won many provincial and national blue ribbons for the quality of their honey), farming, gardening, berry picking and canning. In her free time Mom loved to sew, crochet, quilt, jigsaw puzzles, and bowl. She had beautiful hand writing and penmanship and displayed it on the many cards and letters she loved to send. She enjoyed travelling (especially to Las Vegas) and spending time with family and friends at the summer cottage at Red Deer Lake.

She was a kind, generous, loving and unique woman who will be sadly missed. She lived an incredible and adventure-filled life, brought warmth and laughter to whomever she met and always had a positive outlook. She touched the lives of so many and we are all better people for having her in our lives.

The family would like to thank the health care aides, companions, and staff at the Ironwood. Thanks to the professional emergency staff and especially to Dr. Garg for his compassionate care of our Mom.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.

Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 505 Brewster Street, Winnipeg.
