Patricia A. Blais

1936 ~ 2021

On December 13, 2021, in Whitemouth, Manitoba, Pat passed away peacefully with her husband and daughters at her side, after a lengthy battle with dementia.

Pat was born on August 4, 1936 in St. Boniface, Manitoba and was the youngest of 13 children. She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Douglas Blais; her children Carol Fisher (Gary), Dan Blais (Hollie), Theresa (Larry) Nielsen, Barb Blais,  Susan (Rick) Backer, and Penny (Jay) Effler; and daughter-in-law Janette (David).  She was predeceased by her son David, her first grandchild, Joe Blais and her son-in-law, Terry Fisher.

Pat was a devoted wife and mother of 7 children, 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  The cornerstone of Pat’s life was family.  She always welcomed extended family and friends and loved to have extra people around the table. Her love for her family was undeniable, as she never hesitated to help them, including travelling at any time, anywhere to care for her grandchildren.  She balanced family life and work life, working full time for the Government of Canada for 30 years, cooking homemade meals, sewing clothes for her children and grandchildren, and coaching hockey.  She enjoyed working in her garden, playing bridge and golf and hosting parties where she was known for the best margaritas!

As a military wife, Pat adjusted to challenging conditions, including life in Churchill without running water or plumbing.  She was a bold no fuss person, preferring jeans to dressing up and was never afraid to speak her mind. Pat came alive when music was playing and became a professional dancer in the kitchen. She had a dry sense of humour, sometimes laughing when no one else would. Pat brought life that filled a room, and joy that filled others.

A sincere thank you to the staff at Riverview Health Centre and Whitemouth Personal Care Home. Your special care of Patricia was very much appreciated by all of the family.

A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2022.

To Dear Doug and family. I’m so sorry about the loss of Pat. But also so sorry that you have had to experience this illness and the way it robs people slowly of the people they cherish. I loved living next door to Douglas and Pat. And not only because of the margaritas!! Your family is one of the most welcoming families I have met. Doug you were so kind to me over the years, and Pat was always making me laugh, sticking up for me, encouraging me and just plain loving me and my kids. She never complained about my noisy kids next door that could be sometimes be in the back yard, sometimes on the roof. You guys supplied wood for many of our backyard fires and welcomed my kids to the woodpile whenever. So thank you for extending your love of family to your neighborhood. Pat, rest well in peace. You are missed and remembered so very fondly. Thinking of you makes me remember laughing with you.
With love, “Next door Jenny, on Dufferin”

Dear Doug and the entire Blais family
I was so saddened to learn of Pats passing, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother as well as many other titles. I was so happy to have been included in the last big celebration in Pinawa a few years ago, and I too will miss her dearly.

To Uncle Doug and all my cousins, Carol, Danny, Theresa, Barb, Susan, Penny and their extended families,
Auntie Pat will forever be in the hearts of anyone who knew her. I always felt MORE than welcome whenever we would visit. Some fav memories of the last decades are the anniversary party in Pinawa. I remember how Auntie Pat ‘looked’ ❤️ at Uncle Doug after so many years of being married. I remember your smile, laughter, and love of family – and our family was large. Love and hugs to the family you left behind to celebrate your memory and mourn your loss.
    Love and hugs,
    Judy, Norm and family

Sincere condolences to Doug and the whole Blais family. You were so lucky to have had a Mom and wife like Pat. Vern and I knew Pat & Doug in Borden – especially the the golf club – I worked, golfed, laughed and attended a couple of the kids weddings.
It has been a cherished friendship that has lasted over many years.
Rest In Peace Pat – you had a great run!!!

Pat will never fade. They will come back to you while watching your grandchildren dance, smile,
giggle or perhaps the way they would walk fast and leave you watching.
    Take Care.

I have many fond memories of Pat, of course her signature margarita’s which she loved to share, and adding much laughter over the time of visiting. Also her and Doug’s homemade wine, always plenty of bottles handed out. She had a wonderful way of always taking the time to listen, smile back and never judge. She will be sadly missed, rest in peace Pat ❤
