Reinhold “Roy” Briese

September 30, 1934 ~ January 16, 2023

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, Roy Briese at East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home in Beausejour on Monday, January 16, 2023 at the age of 88.

He is survived by his daughters, Cindy (Lance) Wadelius, and Cathy (Byron) Sault; his grandchildren:  Michelle (Evan), Nicole (Jeff), Kyle, Riley and Jaclyn (Erik).  He also leaves his great granddaughters Leona, Ellie, Hannah and Stella, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Dad was predeceased by our mother Toody who he absolutely adored and missed dearly.  They had 65 years of married life.  It is great comfort to the family that mom and dad are together again.

Roy was a very positive person who believed in the love of family, the fellowship of friends and had a strong faith in God.    He always told us to “take time for people” and his home was open to anyone.  He loved to tell stories and make you laugh and he could easily engage anyone in a conversation.  If someone was in need, he would be there to help.  He always made time.

Dad, with mom by his side, built their many homes and camps together.  They travelled throughout North America and Europe.   Roy was very proud that they drove across Canada to all the provinces, the Yukon, NWT and Labrador.  Dad loved the outdoors and the beauty of nature.  This love moved him into a long career with Manitoba Natural Resources.  Dad was a passionate antique collector, a musician who led many sing-alongs and a friend to all who knew him.  Above all, family gatherings were the most important to him.

A Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m. with viewing one hour prior at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Ave., Beausejour, MB.

Many thanks to East Gate Lodge staff for care & compassion to dad.  In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in Roy’s memory to East Gate Lodge Recreation Department, Box 1690, Beausejour, MB R0E 0C0.

Roy was my mothers first cousin. He was always full of good natured tricks, and everyone loved him. He will be missed by everyone who knew him. May God Bless him and comfort his family. May Roy rest in peace knowing that he did everything that he could for his family and his community.

Roy Briese, a very interesting person who had the true passion for the forest. He was one of the chapters in “Mighty Men of the Forest” book written by Ray Fetterly. I spent many moments with him as we travelled together to check out the natural landscape throughout the local area. His knowledge and history was remarkable. He cared and he enjoyed teaching his skills to the younger officers. He was well respected as a patrolman, fire ranger and wildfire prevention officer of the eastern region with Manitoba Conservation. He loved a good discussion on the outdoors and when he was a team member on all the numerous wildfires he helped to extinguish. Rest in peace Roy.
Our sympathies to the Briese family.

So many wonderful memories of Uncle Roy . Uncle Roy was always upbeat , with a smile on his face and a story to share. He always made time for a visit whenever you dropped by . He loved playing guitar and leading a singsong which lasted late into the night many times at my parent’s place. We’ll miss the visits, but know he’s happily reunited with Aunt Toody and all his siblings . Thinking of you Cindy, Cathy and families. Always in my heart ♥️ Jan

My sincere condolences Cindy, Lance, Cathy, Byron & your families on your loss of your Dad & Grandpa. Roy loved sharing stories of the forestry. He loved people & would stop to visit during his walks downtown, at the post office & especially garage sales in the summer on Friday’s! Your mom & dad loved garage sailing! Always together with glowing smiling faces happy with life. Saying something funny & laughing. They are now together holding hands once again. Loving memories, may they fill your hearts with peace.

To the family members of Roy & Toody Briese we extend our sincere condolences on the passing of Roy. He was a respected member of the community with a very friendly smile and positive outlook. Roy was one of the first people we met when we moved to this community way back in 75. We rented a house from him and it felt like becoming part of the family, with an open invitation to come over for a glass of apple cider. He was very knowledgeable in many things but his love of nature and forestry was amazing.
    He will be missed.

We are indeed grateful that we had the opportunity to meet and spend some time with Roy. His happy demeanor, vivid stories, and zest for life were invigorating. He was a wonderful role model for our son Evan (Michelle) and we know he enriched the lives of many people. He prompted me to try apple cider vinegar which he touted as a miracle elixir for healthy bodies. While I failed at being able to drink it regularly, I have recently started apple cider gummies, and think of him every day when I take them. May he rest in peace with his beloved wife Toody.
