Richard (Rick) E. Howey

In Memorial

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Richard (Rick) Howey on Monday, October 7th, 2019 at the Pinawa Hospital surrounded by his family and close friends.  After battling with Crohn’s Disease for most of his adult life he succumbed to kidney failure.

Predeceased by his mother and father, Gladys and Reg Howey, and his in-laws Doreen and James Martin, Rick is survived by his wife of 50 years Suzanne and his much loved children; daughter Kim (Glenn Wark) and granddaughter Stephanie; son Blair (Julie Jones) and grandchildren Nicholas, Rebecca and Matthew; and his daughter Jennifer and her partner Patrick Malabre and her children Mckenzie and Hannah Forster.  His grandchildren were his pride and joy.  He is also survived by his sister Barbara (Howard) Buffie and nieces Laura (Jeff), Carolyn, and Heather (Dana) and special sister-in-law Helen Martin and husband Rick Campbell of Vancouver, also long time childhood friend Stan and his wife Susan Wood who have been a great support throughout his many ups and downs with his Crohn’s disease.

Rick was born January 23, 1947 at St. Boniface Hospital and grew up in St. Vital living on Hull Avenue, attending Glenlawn Collegiate.  After high school he worked for Bank of Montreal and then followed in his father’s footsteps and became a scale mechanic and eventually became maintenance supervisor/ purchasing co-ordinator until the time of his retirement with Dominion Malting (now known as Malteurop).

Rick & Suzanne moved to the Lac du Bonnet area in 2008 where after retirement Rick enjoyed the quiet life.

Many thanks to Dr. Bruneau of Lac du Bonnet for his long-time care and Dr. Williams and nursing staff at Pinawa Hospital emergency for their care and concern for Rick and compassion for his family.

“No greater love than the enduring tender love…

of one drunken friend for another.”

Uncle Stan, thank you for being dad’s friend.

Cremation has taken place and as per Rick’s request there will be no funeral service.  A private family gathering has been held.
