Rilla was born and raised in The Pas, Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg to take her x-ray technician training in 1950. In 1952, she joined the air force and it is here that she met her husband. After they married, she followed him on many postings across Canada and overseas. They settled in Beausejour, Manitoba in 1965 and built the home where they raised their family.
During her years in Beausejour, Rilla worked for many years as an x-ray and lab technician at different health care offices. She was a long time active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 132. One of her passions was to collect pop can tabs to provide wheelchairs for the disabled. For many years she volunteered as a den mother at the Legion Athletic Camp in the International Peace Gardens. Throughout her life she had a love of curling and golfing.
Special thanks to the staff of the hospital for their compassion and the excellent care they provided not only for Rilla, but also the entire family. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 132 or donations to a charity of your choice.
