Robert “Stuart” Savoy

March 28, 1966 — March 28, 2023

1966 – 2023

Suddenly on January 25, 2023, Robert Stuart Savoy of Hadashville, MB., passed away. He was 56.

Stuart was predeceased by his father Ralph Savoy. Left to mourn is his mother Christine; his life partner Janine Bergamot; daughter Rachel; brothers Scott and Sandy; sister-in-law Sytske; as well as his niece and nephews (Kyla, Deric, Alex).

Stuart was born in Saint John, New Brunswick, in 1966. His family moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1978. He stayed in the Winnipeg area into his early 30’s, when he had a brief marriage and welcomed his daughter in 2002. He met Janine in 2005, and they settled on a property near Hadashville in 2007 where they have remained.

He fell in love with science fiction and fantasy at a very young age, and collected a diverse and imaginative group of friends who shared his enthusiasm. Sci-fi books, StarTrek, Dungeons & Dragons, LARPing, and video games – he always preferred cooperative or strategic interactions with multiple characters. In his twenties, he was very involved with Winnipeg Keycon, The Barony of Wildgard, and ran the Vampire Games. He enjoyed creating characters, collecting items for groups to use in different scenes, and preparing his costuming details.  In 2013 and 2014, he participated in the Zombie Apocalypse games in the Blumenort area, where he was thrilled to introduce his daughter to the fantasy world of live games. He relished the bizarre, which allowed for a wide range of interests and helped make him so personable, accepting people as they were and finding something in common.

Stuart worked at a variety of jobs that gave him a lot of experience with multiple mechanical, technical, and people skills that he was able to adapt to new situations at different workplaces. Stuart was a familiar face to many as he operated the South Whiteshell Transfer Station at Falcon Lake for 16 years. He was very proud that the system and protocols he developed there were adopted as the model for other transfer stations opening up in the province. During the winter, he took on additional work in maintenance at the Prawda Shell station, lift maintenance and operation at Falcon Ridge Ski & Recreation Area at Falcon Lake, and at Grizzly Transport in Hadashville, as support for the shop mechanics. He completed training for a Class 3 license in 2021, and in the summer of 2022, transferred to the Provincial Highways Hadashville Yard, where he loved working as part of a team and learning new things.

Stuart was a very generous person who enjoyed passing on anything that could be re-used to those that wanted or needed them, especially to newcomers in the area. He kept a mental list of people who told him what they needed and always had his eye out for them. It gave him great pleasure to surprise them with their wish and always offered more than was required.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Sobering Funeral Chapel; 1035 Park Ave, Beausejour, MB. A Celebration of Life luncheon will follow at the Beausejour River Community Hall – Beausejour Room; 320 Veterans Lane, Beausejour, MB.

The family would like to give special thanks to Stuart’s co-workers and the EMS personnel for their care and compassion.
