Roger Roy Smith

September 10, 1953 – June 23, 2020

“We’ve shared our lives these many years;

You’ve held my hand; you’ve held my heart.

So many blessings, so few tears

Yet for a moment, we must part.”

On Tuesday, June 23, 2020, Roger peacefully slipped into his eternal rest as he held the love of his life’s hand, his hunny bunny Debbie.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 15 years, Debbie Tessier; his son Ryan Smith and granddaughter Lily; and his daughter Ashley Burslem.

He also leaves behind his siblings, Lloyd Smith (Clare), Ronald Smith (Diane), Wayne Smith (Wendy), Terry Smith (Dorothy), Faye Hutton, Theresa Stephen (Bob), Marion McCalman (Jim), Tracey Wurch (Andy) and Tammy Latkovich (Jamie Mahoney); as well as many nieces and nephews.

Roger was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Elsie Smith; his brother Clifford Smith; his sister Barbara Loster; as well as brothers-in-law, Ron Hutton and Percy Loster.

Roger was employed at Boeing in Winnipeg for 26 years up until his retirement in 2018 due to health issues.

A private family viewing will take place on Friday, July 3 at Sobering Funeral Chapel.  A private family memorial will be held on Saturday, July 4 at 2:00 pm at the home of his sister Tracey and brother-in-law Andy Wurch’s place.

We would like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for the amazing love and care they showed Roger as well as those that visited and helped with final arrangements.  A big thank you to Libby and the staff of Sobering Funeral Chapel for going above and beyond to make all the arrangements so effortless.  Your thoughtfulness did not go unnoticed.

A Letter From Heaven

When tomorrow starts without me

And I’m not here to see,

If the sun should rise and find your eyes

Filled with tears for me.

I wish so much you wouldn’t cry

The way you did today.

While thinking of the many things

We didn’t get to say.

I know how much you love me

As much as I love you.

And each time you think of me

I know you’ll miss me too.

When tomorrow starts without me

Don’t think we’re far apart.

For every time you think of me

I’m right there in your heart.
