Rose Schatkowsky (Van Wallegham)

March 28, 1930 — March 28, 2017

1930 ~ 2017

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Rose Schatkowsky on Thursday, November 23, 2017 at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home.

Rose is survived by John, her loving and devoted husband of 65 years, daughter Debbie, son Tim (Rosana) and grand-daughters Camryn and Erin; brothers Tom and Frank (Marie); in-laws Wilma Naismith, Verne and Helen Schatkowsky and numerous nieces and nephews.  Rose was predeceased by her parents Julius and Katie Van Wallegham, and many other family members.

Rose was born in Whitemouth on November 2, 1930.  She met the love of her life, John, in Whitemouth and they were married on November 21, 1952.  Rose graduated from Success Business College in Winnipeg, and worked at the Royal Bank in both Whitemouth and Dryden. After Tim was born she stayed at home as a self-taught seamstress and sewed many lovely items of clothing for numerous clients. She later returned to the workforce at Les Barrett Sports overseeing the driver and vehicle licensing, which eventually became her own business.

Rose continued enjoying sewing, knitting and other crafts. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, golfing, and snowmobiling with family and friends. She curled, bowled and even tried cross-country and water skiing.

Rose and John moved back to Whitemouth in 1999 for their retirement years so they could be closer to their grand-daughters. She reacquainted herself with old friends and made new ones.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bruneau, Dr. Papetti, and the staff at the Whitemouth Personal Care Home for their comfort and care and to Pastor Richard and Pastor Jeremy for their prayers.  A special thank you to Rose’s sister-in-law Wilma Naismith for her friendship and support especially during the most difficult times.

A memorial service will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Henderson Avenue, Whitemouth on Tuesday, November 28 at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow at the Whitemouth Recreation Centre.  A private family interment will take place.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Box 277, Whitemouth, MB R0E 2G0 or the Resident Council, Whitemouth Personal Care Home, Box 160, Whitemouth, Manitoba R0E 2G0.
