Rustin Doyle Penner

November 13, 1997 — December 31, 2023

November 13, 1997-December 31,  2023

Rustin Doyle’s story began on November 13, 1997. He was born to Kris and Randee Penner in Selkirk, MB. His work here on earth was finished in the late evening hours of December 31, 2023.

Rustin was a cheerful, energetic lad with varied interests and many dreams. He attended the Willow Grove School in Beausejour for 9 years. Although this completed his formal education, he never stopped learning, thinking, and absorbing the world around him. At the age of 12, Rustin felt the call of God and committed himself to serve the Lord, never wavering in that commitment. This resulted in a new birth experience and Rustin was baptized into The Church of God in Christ Mennonite on February 27, 2011. I met Rustin when I came to teach in Beausejour in January 2015. His family says it became apparent quite quickly that the feelings Rustin had for me were special. We were married on August 26, 2018. The next five years were the best of Rustin’s life and he poured his heart into being a husband and leader of our home. You always believed in me sweetheart and gave me such courage to be all I could be. You were the love of my life, my knight in shining armor. I fell in love with your crazy wink almost right away. Your vivacious personality was catching and attracted everyone to you. Your enthusiasm for everything you did was inspiring. You were living the life you always dreamed of. When we welcomed Edison Shane into our lives on December 30, 2022, you dove into fatherhood like you did everything else. You loved Edison with your whole being and he loved you right back. Watching you play on the floor with him will always be my best memory. Making a tunnel out of chairs and blankets was a new game. You were worried that you weren’t a normal Dad for acting that way, but you were the best Dad I’ve ever seen.

Rustin was a farm boy at heart who loved dogs, always enthused about growing things and working the land. He also had a keen interest in mechanics and when an opportunity to purchase a fix it shop in Beausejour presented itself, he launched into it with enthusiasm and energy. He loved serving the people he met and made many friends through his work. The dream of building a bigger shop was realized in the fall of 2023. He loved his coworkers, caring for each one as a personal friend. He valued the contribution each one made to First Street Auto.

Edison will never know you but I vow that I’ll tell him about you every day. I’ll do my best to train him in the right way so that some day we can both see you again. The last prayer you prayed with me in the hospital when you could hardly talk any more will always be precious to me. You were very concerned about all your responsibilities, feeling the weight of fatherhood, being a husband, and running your shop. You prayed that you would get better so that you could be that man again, but I think we both knew that wasn’t going to happen.  I love you and I’ll miss you forever.

Left with grieving hearts are his wife, Twila and 1 year old son Edison Shane; his parents Kris and Randee, Beausejour, MB; his brothers, Clay and Emily, and Roman, all of Beausejour, MB; grandparents: Jerry and Lenora Penner, Beausejour, MB, and Alton and Judy Koehn, Detroit, TX: Twila’s parents Gordon and Laurel Goossen, Altona, MB; her siblings: Teresa and Phil Schmidt, El Campo, TX; Heidi and Kevin Barkman, Brandon, MB; Lyle and Melanie, Altona, MB; and Anthony and Natalie, Rosenort, MB; 6 nieces and nephews; Grandmother Norma Isaac, Rosenort, MB; special friends: JoVan Friesen, Roblin, MB and Benjamin Isaac, Kenora, ON; the First Street Auto family and very many friends.
