Shirley Biedler

November 14, 1928-December 26, 2022

Shirley Biedler (nee Wychreschuk) of Beausejour, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 26, 2022 at the age of 94 years, in East Gate Lodge Personal Care Home, Beausejour, Manitoba.

She was predeceased by her husband, Emanuel Biedler; her parents, Zacharko and Eudochia Wychreschuk; her siblings, Steve, Mary (Steve) Kowalchuk, Mike (Rose), John, Anne (Peter) Miller, Nellie (Lloyd) Seifert; and she left behind a sister, Elvira (Gordon) Cann and many nephews and nieces.

Shirley was born in Brokenhead (Dencross), Manitoba on November 14, 1928.

Shirley will be remembered as a career teacher who began teaching in the mid 1940’s. During this time she taught in nine different schools and communities in both Manitoba and Ontario, and eventually in Beausejour. Upon retiring from teaching in 1972, she ended her working career employed by Manitoba Public Insurance for eleven years.

Shirley was a very social person who loved to dance and attended many dances with her husband, Emanuel. In addition she liked and participated in bowling; up to three leagues at one time. Shirley volunteered with the Beausejour Zion Lutheran Church, Royal Canadian Legion #132 and delivering Meals on Wheels.

In compliance with Shirley’s wishes of a simple, private family funeral, her cremains will be interred privately in the Spring of 2023.

As recorded 50 years ago in a tribute to Shirley as a teacher, her comment was, “We are living here only on borrowed time and to live with peace with others we must first find peace with ourselves”.  Shirley passed away PEACEFULLY on Monday, December 26, 2022.

Shirley will be greatly missed by all her family members and friends.

The family thanks all the people, doctors, nurses and all staff who have looked after and cared for Shirley.

In memory of Shirley, donations may be made to a charity or humanitarian organization of one’s choice.

I will remember the bingo nights with Aunt Shirley and Uncle John when I came to visit. Aunt Shirley always had a smile and a lovely laugh. I am glad she passed peacefully.

My treasured neighbour of almost 50 years always inspired me with her wonderful smile, infectious laugh and her friendship and kindness. Shirley was not only a neighbour but a true friend who always made sure her neighbour David was OK. R.I.P. my friend Shirley.
