STEVE HLADY

April 10, 1918 ~ May 15, 2011

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our Dad, Steve Hlady, in the early morning hours on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Red River Place Personal Care Home, Selkirk, MB, at the age of 93.

Dad leaves to mourn his children Cliff, Donna and Conard (Sue), 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter, brother John (Marion) as well as many nephews and nieces and previous long time companion Stella Dubas. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Mary, brothers Paul, Henry, Mike and Casmir, grandson Craig Hlady, great granddaughter Emma Hlady and estranged wife Frances Hlady.

Dad was born in Stead, MB on April 10, 1918 and grew up in the Thalberg/Stead area helping alongside his brothers on his parent’s farm. Dad worked hard and long days in both his Dad’s farm and eventually his own farm. He married Mom in 1945 and farmed on Section 1 and Glenmoor where he raised his three children. He planted many trees and took great pride in his yard, both in Glenmoor and later in Winnipeg, where he had beautiful flowers, trees and gardens. Even after he sold the farm and moved to Winnipeg he still loved to plant and dig in the dirt. He just couldn’t get away from farming and worked at Cybulsky’s Strawberry Farm for many happy years after ‘retirement’. Dad always kept his hands busy and loved woodworking. He built many beautiful creations from wood. Picnic tables, lawn chairs, kids tables and chairs, TV tables and wooden trains sets, cars and trucks, which he proudly gave to his children and grandchildren. These are keepsakes we will cherish always.

Dad was a strong and proud man, having survived cancer twice. We wish to thank Stella for the many years of joy, love and companionship Dad shared with her before his move to the Personal Care Home, as well as the many family and friends who visited with Dad during his 3 years there.

Dad, you will be missed so very much. You are at peace now and we will be happy to know you are free to putter all you please with no restrictions. Say Hi to Mom for us.

Funeral Mass will be held, Friday, May 20 at 3:00 p.m. in Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Parish, Thalberg, MB. Pallbearers will be Steven Hlady, Derek Hlady, Neil Hlady, Grant Hlady, Kyle Hlady and Kevin Hlady. A luncheon will follow in the Hall after the interment in the Parish Cemetery.
