May 7, 1959 – March 12, 2024

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of beloved mother, grandma, sister and auntie, Susan Stefaniuk at the age of 64. She is survived by sister Patricia Wallman, grandchildren Persephone, Grace and Mallory Brown, children Penny (James), Amanda (Dan) and Mel Jr (Michelle), mother-in-law Margery Stefaniuk and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by son Spenser, husband Mel, mother Dorothy, father John Sr, and brothers Ramsay and John Huska.

Born in Beausejour as Susan Huska, she married Mel Stefaniuk on July 14, 1979, and soon opened their video store Oh Susanna Sunshine. The family loved cultivating an extensive catalog of movies and video games in the small town from 1981 – 2004 and attracted visitors from all over Manitoba. Mel and Susan also loved their trips down to Las Vegas every summer to the annual video store convention and would come back with wonderful stories about meeting Hollywood legends and the amazing food at the buffets.

Susan later took on a health care aide position at the East-Gate Lodge Personal Care Home where she spent nearly two decades caring for older residents of the community. She made many friends and memories before she retired in 2019.

While she didn’t quite make it to what she called her ‘second 18th birthday’, her retirement years were among her happiest. She was finally able to renovate her home and outdoor patio with the help of longtime friend Bryan Martel. She was also able to enjoy her favourite pastimes: reading mystery books, binging TV shows, napping and enjoying a warm cup of coffee outside in the yard.

As Grammy, she adored having her granddaughters over for sleepovers. And whether it was dressing up as Peppa Pig for Halloween or solving jigsaw puzzles together, in just eight short years she was able to cultivate a lifetime of memories for them to treasure.

At Susan’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation,1160 – 675 McDermot Avenue Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3E 0V9
